Emperor Hadrian (117-138 C.E.)

Histories

A popular genre during the second century was the history. Yet, it was not because of their literary talent that these authors were popular, but for their subject matter. The topics they covered were considered very important and exciting and many people found the readings interesting from a historical point of view rather than an intellectual one. Many choose smaller subjects to study in depth, similar to Josephus, rather than being very broad and general in their studies.
