2nd Century Roman Rule in Asia Minor

"And the POWER of this form is shown by your standards and trophies to the accompaniment of which all your state processions are made, using these as signs of your rule and POWER . . ."
-Justin: First Apology Chap 55

During the spring of 2003, we had the pleasure of traveling to western Turkey for a class entitled "Archaeological Remnants and Virtual Realities," thanks in large part to Dr. Robert Royalty and the generosity of Wabash College. This course examined Roman influence in Asia Minor around the second century. Our site in particular focuses on the means by which the Romans exerted their control over the people of Asia Minor and how they were perceived by Christian communities in these areas. Rome wielded its power over these regions through the utilization of these four main avenues of influence: religion, government, military, and economy.
