Asia Minor was controlled by the Roman Empire with little military force, especially compared to other provinces within the empire. The main avenue of rule involved control by state religion. This included the building of temples, the imperial cult, and utilization of the neokorate status. Though for the most part conflict-free, this form of rule would later come into conflict with Christianity. Both sides had interesting notions about each other and unique reactions to each other's presence.
